Engaging in External Research at ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP

ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP does not currently have a standing Institutional Review Board (IRB). If you are interested in recruiting ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP students and/or employees as participants for your external research study, please complete the following steps to ensure your study is completed in compliance with ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP's External Research Process:

  1. Obtain IRB approval from your institution or partnering institution (in cases where ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP employees may be collaborating on research with other colleges/universities).
  2. Email your request to recruit ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP students and/or employees for your research study to the Office of College Research & Planning. In this email, please include the following documents:
    1. IRB approval letter from your institution (including the full IRB application that was submitted)
    2. CITI Training completion certificate (must have been completed within the last three years)
    3. A brief description of how you plan to engage ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP students and/or employees, including an estimated timeframe of engagement
  3. DO NOT begin recruiting ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP students and/or employees as participants for your external research study until you have received an approval notification from the Office of College Research & Planning.

Frequently Asked Questions

I am an ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP employee conducting a research study for my dissertation or thesis. Do I need approval to conduct my study at ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP?

Yes. Please follow ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP's External Research Process, outlined above.

I want to use ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP data in my research study. What do I need to do to access the data I need?

Access to ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP data for use in a research study that will be published and/or disseminated outside of ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP requires approval through ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP's External Research Process. Please note, requests for data with identifiable information will be denied.

I am a ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP Faculty member planning to have my students complete research studies as a class project. Are my students required to obtain IRB approval?

No. Because the research study is being completed as a class project, with no intention of publishing the results or dissemination outside of ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏAPP, students do not need to go through the External Research Process.

If you are interested in having your students experience the IRB application process in your classroom, we are happy to provide you documents that can be used as class assignments (e.g., IRB application and other forms that may be seen during the IRB process).
